Hunger Games Movie: My Reaction... (No Spoilers)

When does Catching Fire come out?

I don't want to ruin anything for those who haven't had a chance to see this fantastic movie so I won't do a full review. We can discuss all the amazing goodness later.

I think this is a great movie for anyone but those who have read the book will get things so much more.  There are a few things that probably confused people who had not read the book.  Specifically, the movie didn't fully explained how destitute the districts were and why some people had more entries in the reaping than others.  My brother didn't understand the bread situation between Peeta and Katniss so I guess that was a bit confusing.  But I got it all ;)

My only complaint is that Haymitch might have been a bit more sober than I remember.

But there are a few things that the movie did that exceeded my grandest expectations.
1.  Katniss
2.  Peeta
3.  The Hunger Games

Overall, this movie met and exceeded my expectations.  I can't believe they did such a great job.
I. can. not. wait. for. Catching Fire.

  2. I am seeing this movie this weekend and I cannot wait. It sounds wonderful and I am happy to hear that it was better than you expected. I can imagine there are things that would be confusing without reading the book. Great review- thanks for not giving anything away. :)

    1. I tried not to give things away. It was one of my biggest fears before going to see it. I was worried I would see a spoiler on a blog. Lol.

    3. I'm hoping the Capitol gets even more fantastic with things of this sort in the next one.

  5. The movie was ridiculously expensive here! Almost as much as the stupid 3D movies so nope, I will not see it :/ I will wait for the DVD. Bf and I could go to dinner for the price of our tickets. And they wonder why less and less go to the movies here

    1. That is redic! I can't believe that it is so expensive. I heard some people talking about $10 tickets here. I wouldn't even pay that. I paid $12 for both me and my brother's tickets. I am a college student. That's what I do.

  6. I am soooo not into these books (or movie) just like I wasn't into the Twilight series, but I DO totally respect those who are!
When I found out that "Discovery of Witches" was going to be made into a movie I screamed out loud!

    1. I can understand that. I started off being into the Twilight series but I dropped off quickly. I haven't read Discovery of Witches but I remember hearing a lot about it.

  7. I have been hearing nothing but good things about the movie. It's makes me pretty excited to see it. I will probably wait until the crowd dies down before I go see it though.

    1. I mean it certainly isn't perfect but it is awesome. I can deal with imperfections if it still feels good for me and this one did.

  8. I'm so happy to hear that the movie is living up to the fan's expectations for the most part.
I guess I'll be watching it at some point since my sister wants to see it. :D

    1. I saw your post and I see that it didn't live up to yours. So sad. Will you continue to watch though?

  9. I agree wholeheartedly. I thought they did a fabulous job adapting a fairly complicated story into an intense and visually stunning movie. My stomach was in my throat the entire time, even if I did know what was going to happen. SO good!

    1. I know! I kept leaning forward and covering my mouth. I was in a trance even though I knew what was going to happen.

  11. Hey all! Just an FYI Cathcing Fire is coming out in 2013. No exact date just yet. But more than likely toward the end of the year to maximize the profit from this one first. Just saw it and I am 50/50 with it. If you didn't read the book the movie is completely confusing and makes no sense.

    1. You know that kind of sucks. They made plenty of money off this one and there is more to come. They should keep it in March so people don't forget how they felt after watching it.

  12. I just read this book this weekend! All of a sudden I realised the movie was out and I had to read the book first, so I spent all weekend reading it and loved it so much! I can't wait to see the movie!! :D

  13. I loved it! There were a few things they could have done better but overall I thought it was great. I agree with you about Haymitch. I kept thinking, he is so not as belligerent as he is in the books. And I wish the flashback to the bread scene had used younger actors so they would know that there indeed had been a connection between the two for some years now.

    1. You are right about the younger actors. I hadn't thought of that. I really though Haymitch's drunkenness was funny in the books so it stood out for me that it was toned down in the movie.

  15. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. I've heard that people who haven't read the books will be very confused. Personally, I wish this wouldn't happen with adaptations. I'm an aspiring screenwriter and write a lot of stuff based on true stories...okay I'm getting to my point. I'm also interested in doing adaptations. I think it's extremely important to make the movie as clear as possible for all those who come to the theater. I think that's sometimes the problem with adaptations and when they are done in a 2 hr movie. I almost wish THG had been made into a TV series or mini-series. That way the characters, the plot, the setting can be expanded upon. A recent mini-series that stayed true to the book is Mildred Pierce (starring Kate Winslet not Joan Crawford.) Anyway...that's just my feeling, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I think the actors are a perfect choice. And yes, Haymitch was smashed the entire book.

    1. I think the focus should be on making it as clear as possible, but it seemed the focus was on emotional effect. I think it worked so I'm not complaining but then again, I read the books.

  16. I thought it was pretty good! I did go with someone who hadn't read the books---their thoughts were interesting. They thought Peeta was using Katniss, when I told them the book version they were perplexed they didn't get it from the movie. :)

    1. Yeah I definitely get that. I had to fill in some things for my brother. For me, the movie felt the way the book felt. But I think the dramatic effects might not have helped someone who had not read the books understand what was going on.

  18. They definitely cleaned up Haymitch for the movie which I liked. Woody Harrleson was wonderful! You know what, the entire cast was amazing! Rue was so cute, Katniss was a badass, even Seneca was cool! :)

    602 days until Catching Fire!
