Description:
After twelve years of secret training, Atticus O’Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave. Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge—but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief, who all seem to have KILL THE DRUID at the top of their to-do lists.

My Review:

On the story...
Trapped felt like a fresh start in the Iron Druid Series.  It's twelve years later and time for Granuaile to finally be a druid.  There's lots of adventure, humor, and fun per usual but it seemed like we've turned a corner and moved on from some (but not all) of the plot that derived from the set of circumstances that occurred ages ago.  I was not amused at how awesome Granuaile turned out to be right out of the box as a druid, but that's just me.  I also find the romance element to be...so...unromantic.  It's there but, not great.  I hate generalizing but I often feel this way with male authors.  The romance is a bit uninspiring.  It didn't click for me but I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

On the narrator...
Of course it's my BFF and I love him.  Mr. Daniels is amazing yet again.  I wonder how many voices he has got in him.  He's got to run out eventually right?  This series has so many characters and Mr. Daniels is able to make each of them distinct.  He's amazing.

Overall...
Another great installment.  I can't believe I read and love this series.

P.S.  Anyone know agree with me on Atticus and Granuaile's romance?  Which male authors do you think do a great job in the romance department (whether it is a sub-plot or main plot)?

  4. I really enjoy this series. I think the romance element is light and I sort of tune it out, or view more as background. The conflict between Atticus and whatever baddie he is facing is where the real meat of these books is at.

Also, Oberon is really his first love.

Try Guy Gavriel Kay for subplot romance. Excellent, excellent writer.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. I know that the romance is not the key element to this book and I'm A-ok without it. I just think it could be better.

  5. Love your honesty with this review. I don't know why I have yet to continue this series but I need to. Sounds like folks are still after Atticus, but I do think it would have been more realistic for the new Druid to have a few growing pains.

And I agree with you on the "uninspiring" romances from male authors. Many seem to have a hard time adding that zsa zsa zsu! Great review.

    1. I feel the same. I hate to generalize. I really do.

Considering Atticus's age and experience, I expected much more growing pains for our new Druid.

  6. I read the very first book and I really liked it but I'm a romance reader at heart and, well, it didn't have enough for me.
But otherwise it was really fun and I loved Oberon.

    1. Yes the romance definitely takes a back seat. Oberon is great. One of my favorites!
