Why I Love...Edward Cullen
Credit |
Okay maybe Edward isn't really a villain to anyone but Jacob but hey...good enough for me. So I have a love/hate relationship with Edward. In the books I loved him. In the movies...not so much. SPOILERS AHEAD :) Edward just LEFT Bella. What kind of guy is that. Is that really supposed to be true love? I don't think so. I think it is a strong case of "failure to communicate." And maybe I should give him some credit for not wanting to turn Bella into a vampire because he wanted to save her soul, but I'm not in a forgiving mood. Then. There's Breaking Dawn! 'Nuff said. Edward is a villain and thinking about that book is making my stomach hurt.
Who did you pick as your villain? What do you think of mine? Maybe I'm biased and maybe I'm strongly TEAM JACOB!
Twilight is around the corner! I'm on the fence on whether I will watching in theaters, on DVD, or waiting till next year when the second part comes out. Breaking Dawn is my least favorite of the series and I'm so busy I'm pulling my hair out. What will you do?
Which villain do you love? Feel free to create your own post and link up. Don't want to create an entire post? Tell me your favorites in the comments. Thanks for stopping by for another week of Why I Love Wednesdays!!

You all are so funny! If I have to pick a team I must pick Edward :P Everyone says Edward is controlling I disagree. Edward problem is trying to prevent anything happening to Bella. He left Bella so she wouldn't get hurt, he decides to marry her and make her a vampire because she insisted.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie Breaking Dawn Bella insisted on consummating their marriage while she was still a human (come on Edward man up say NO).
Jacob on the other hand....sorry, besides the great abs he is a crybaby. Every time you look around he is whining about something. Either he is storming off or running off....if you know what I mean. One thing I have to say, he will do anything for Bella.
I read all the books in the movie of Breaking Dawn they explain imprinting more as a protector than anything else. I can't say how it will be in Part 2 but it wasn't gross to me as everyone made it sound.
By the way Reflections of a Bookaholic listen to your Mom, I know what I'm talking about! LOL
I enjoy putting my two cents in with everyone else.
Hmm...never thought of Edward as a villain. But I can certainly see your point. I recently read an article that stated Edward was rather mentally abusive in his relationship with Bella. This, of course, is the writer of the article's viewpoint. And in a tiny way I can see that too.
ReplyDeleteAs for my fave villain...I would say Voldemort!
:)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I can understand. I love how you say vampires smell funny. I was nodding my head as I was reading but when I started to think about it, it's just too funny.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back!!!!!!! Yay!
Edward-like tendencies are signs of future domestic violence in real life. I just can't deal. In the books, I wanted her with Edward because I didn't connect with Jacob like that. On screen...Edward is a little ick. I wish Jacob would have ended up with something better...anything is better than being in love with an infant...ick.
ReplyDeleteNot fair. He never had anything to leave. He was there for Bella when Edward disappeared then she turns around and says if she had to choose she would choose the loser who left her. Just ungrateful.
ReplyDeleteOkay yes...that was icky. I really dislike this Breaking Dawn. It makes my stomach hurt.
Those books make me nauseous - I mean the story is great but the vampires smell funny to me and the werewolves only make me think of my dog when her fur is wet. I hate that smell too! It is one of the stories that I can smell so vividly that I can't concentrate on the words.
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! Alexis, this comment is hilarious!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about the love/hate relationship with book & movie Edward! I'm the same. I never saw him as the villain however. (answer to the spoiler: although I didn't like the fact that he left either! Ugh)
ReplyDeleteI love Jacob in both books and the movies, yet I always wanted Edward for Bella... but Jacob is awesome.
Eeek I agree that his name is creepy. I'm not familiar with this villain but I'm glad you put him on my radar. I'm going to look into these books.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know. I'm so concerned about this movie and how it will be on the screen. There were very few things I liked about this book. I think I might have liked the last 2 chapters or something.
ReplyDeleteI am team Edward all the way, since why even be team Jacob when he would also leave her the second he found his soulmate (and do not even get me started on that icky part)
ReplyDeleteTeam Edward... *ehhh. I don't have time for teams that actually win in the end :P
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post :)
Haha! I've finally settled on skipping. It's funny because last year I dragged all my friends to see it for my birthday (Nov. 23) and most of them had never seen the first two but they went anyway. They were so confused. Hilarious. It's one of my fondest memories.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait till I go home for Thanksgiving and see it with my mom...for my birthday :)
Yes I can understand that. But I didn't like Victoria so I didn't pick her. I picked Edward because I kind of like him (depending on the book) and kind of dislike him. I also needed a Twilight themed post :)
ReplyDeleteSee... you get me :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Team Jacob all the way.
ReplyDeleteLol. I can't agree more. I can't lie though, I liked Edward in the first movie. I didn't read the books till after seeing the first movie. But I don't like the controlling thing at all. I always thought I was overreacting and I see that EVERYONE notices it. I see men like this every day... but this is usually in court. Not a good look.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I really took issue with that too. He was OLD! Why didn't he act like it at least a bit?
ReplyDeleteI was so upset with the imprinting thing. I think that it is disgusting no matter how you spin it and I was baffled that Stephanie Meyer went that route. It's just not okay. I don't blame Jacob though. *hehe* but I think Meyer should have just let him end up being the loser of the love triangle. It happens.
Yes!!
ReplyDeleteLol. I think the team exists because Edward sends warning bells through my body and Jacob is the only hot guy left. Yes tons of people fall in love with people but it doesn't mean you have to like it.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, the post was mostly joking. I wanted a twilight post and this is what I came up with. When I think of Bella's icky situation...and I do mean the icky part. I blame Edward because he's the man and that's kind of how I do it. No worries. I blame my husband for being a man all the time. It's kind of a thing I do when I'm joking.
I admit that I was taken in by Edward in the first book but I never recovered from him leaving Bella.
So sorry! All my fault.
ReplyDeleteI know!! He didn't handle Victoria. That made no sense to me. I hate that his actions are seen as romantic. Oh come on.
Yay for being biased :) I can't help but admit that Jacob's abs have something to do with it.
See you next week.
ReplyDeleteI think if this had happened in real life she would have ended up with neither. I'm not sure why these teenagers know what is best for another teenager. Paternalistic much?
Thanks bunches :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite villain is Christopher Carrion from Clive Barker's Abarat series (even his name is creepy!). It's been a while since I read the first two books so there's no way I could write a whole post on him. But the third book just came out (which I'm hoping to get for Christmas) so I'll definitely be rereading those books soon.

I love that you picked Edward as your villain! I have a love/hate relationship with him too. I loved him in the first book, but once he left...totally Team Jacob from then on. I am going to see Breaking Dawn in the theatre--on Friday, actually. That's only because my book club decided that we're all going together. I'll let you know how it is.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I don't know if I see Edward as a villain, but that's because I'm definitely Team Edward ;) However, I do see where you're coming from. Here's my contribution to the topic!

Poor Eddie! He's a complex character. He never meant to hurt anyone, and always did what he thought was best.
ReplyDeleteIm going to the midnight screening on Thursday! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Sorry I forgot to put the meme title in the name section. And it won't let me change it! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Edward and never saw him as a villain. That was more Victoria for me!
Aww, I'm not ready into either of them.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
But I guess it keeps on theme with the new movie coming out and all :D
LOL I LOVE that you consider Edward a villain. *high five*
ReplyDeleteNot an Edward fan, villain or otherwise. He just looks "meh" as you would say. :-) He's whines and he's very controlling in the books, on film he's unattractive and can't act. So sorry Edward, but not a fan dear...add Bella to the list too with Edward. I don't like her either. Now Jacob, ahhh...what a dream.
ReplyDeleteLOL!! I like your villain, b/c I'm Team Jacob too!!
ReplyDeleteEdward was too much of a whiney weiner for my liking! Seriously at 100+ years old you would think that he could act like more of an adult and less of a 14 year old. *sigh* I was also firmly team Jacob until that whole imprinting on a baby thing. I agree with you Breaking Dawn was definitely my least favourite - but I think that I will still take my 92 year old grandma to see it in the theatre!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the whole Team Jacob thing... why does that team even exist? Jacob never had a chance because Bella is not in love with Jacob. Seriously. Anyway, now that that's out of my system, how is Edward a villain in Breaking Dawn? I totally get that his actions were not the best in New Moon, despite his good intentions, but what did he do wrong in Breaking Dawn? My obvious bias: I heart Edward. He is my ultimate guilty feminist pleasure.
ReplyDeleteOMG I posted the wrong topic. When I came to check what it was villain wasn't up there so I posted on the first one I saw which was bookish family...sorry! I gues I'll do this one next week.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, you picked a great villain! I can't agree more...I was astounded when he just up and left the girl. And didn't bother to handle Victoria before he left so she wouldn't be in any danger because of him. And that whole bit with him holding her hostage and breaking her car! No bueno! Very controlling much! I just can't understand the Ed hype.
But then again you all know I'm biased. Team Jacob...woohoo!
I'm kinda on the fence about Edward. I do think he left Bella for her own good, but still he did leave her. I understand why Myer let Bella and Edward get back together, but if this happened in real life I think Bella might have ended up with Jacob after all. It's hard to turn a clock back successfully. Yes, I'm team Jacob all the way. I'm not playing today because I have a blog hop going on, but I'll be back next week.
ReplyDeleteHey Alexis - I sent you a little ol' award babe! Stop by and check it out.
