From Goodreads:
The seventh son of the seventh son, aptly named Septimus Heap, is stolen the night he is born by a midwife who pronounces him dead. That same night, the baby's father, Silas Heap, comes across a bundle in the snow containing a new born girl with violet eyes. The Heaps take this helpless newborn into their home, name her Jenna, and raise her as their own. But who is this mysterious baby girl, and what really happened to their beloved son Septimus? The first book in this enthralling new series by Angie Sage leads readers on a fantastic journey filled with quirky characters and magykal charms, potions, and spells. Magyk is an original story of lost and rediscovered identities, rich with humor and heart.

My Rating:

My Review:

On the story...
This magical story is full of action and characters.  I was captivated by the world created and often found myself laughing out loud, gasping out loud, or putting my hand over my mouth in shock.  There is seriously one adventure after the other.   I wasn't particularly attached to most of the characters but I had a sweet spot for Boy 412.  I just knew he was special.

On the Audio...
This audiobook was LONG and it felt longer than the 12 hours that it states.  There are so many details and quite a few adventures.  I kept thinking the book was coming to an end, but it never seemed to.  I really enjoyed this world, but I really think it could have been shorter.  There is an epilogue of sorts at the end telling you what happened to many of the characters.  I couldn't remember who most of them were.  It was supposed to be funny so it focused on really minor characters, but when I say there are a lot of characters.  There really are a ton.  I never tried to keep up with them at all.

On the narrator...
I've listened to very few male narrators, but I really enjoyed Mr. Corduner.  I thought the voices that he used were entertaining without being over the top.  There are quite a few characters in this book, but somehow Mr. Corduner made it easy for the reader to keep up with who was speaking and the characters personalities really shown through.  I definitely think this is one of the better audiobooks to listen to in terms of quality of narrator.

Overall...
This is a captivating story for those who enjoy long audiobooks.  You I am so glad I found this book.  I could tell by listening that it is an extremely well-written book.

I've really missed my listening to audiobooks lately.  Are there readers out there who still haven't tried an audiobook?  I never tried one until I started this blog.
