Why I Love...Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy

I love love love Pride and Prejudice and the relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.  I'm a sucker for a great romance but this one is extra special because it seems so romantic and realistic.  I love the values portrayed in this book.  Mr. Darcy didn't even find Elizabeth attractive at first but when he discovered her true personality he was hooked.  This is hard to find in many contemporary novels.  Today, heroines are often extra nice and beautiful; her charms are so magnificent that two guys vie for her attention.  Jane Austen introduces a couple that is not bedazzled by beauty but falls in love with the personality of the other.  Nothing else matters.

During this time period Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's love was especially difficult.  Elizabeth did not hold the same status as Mr. Darcy and his aunt didn't even like her (It's tough going against family).  I also think Jane Austen did a good job of introducing other couples who married for ridiculous reasons (maybe not ridiculous for the time).  It creates a great opportunity to compare and contrast. Oooh Ooohh and the movie with Kiera Knightley is awesome.   Really and truly I just love this witty couple.  They fell in love for the right reasons.  Say NO to insta-love!!  None of that goes on here.

Runner-up Best Couples?  Hmmm... Rhett and Scarlett & Katniss and Peeta (even though I have yet to read Mocking jay.

Which book couple do you love? Feel free to create your own post and link up.  Don't want to create an entire post?  Tell me your favorites in the comments.  Thanks for stopping by for another week of Why I Love Wednesdays!!
