My First DNF: My Lady Jane

Source: Purchased

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand and Brodi Ashton
Series: The Lady Janies
Genre: Historical, YA, Fantasy
Pages: 491 kindle

Description:
The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane is about to become the Queen of England.

My Review:
Guys, I tried.  I really really did.  I've previously had a policy of reading every book I started.  I'd stop at times and come back to the read at a different time in a different mood.  But I did that with this one many times and it just didn't help.  And honestly, I don't have the time for it.

This is supposed to be a humorous take on the historical Lady Jane Grey.  It kind of re-imagines history but with shape-shifters, magic, and humor.  I wanted to like it.  I wanted to keep going, but I just couldn't.  It has a snarky tone and every time I tried to settle in, I was drawn out of it.  I was frustrated and angry all the time.  I just had to decide that reading should not be like this.  If you read for fun and to escape the real world, you shouldn't think of all the things you could be doing besides reading this book.  This read is part of the Best of Challenge... that I challenged myself to do but this one irked me to such an extreme that it earned the title of my very first Did Not Finish (DNF) read.  Moving on...

It's different so others might like it.  I'm just putting it out of my mind.
