Description:
“Fee, fi, apple fritter, I smell a little critter!” Jack and the Beanstalk has been told and retold many times over the centuries. But Mercer Mayer’s great wit, animated illustrations, and cleverly created flaps—lift them to see the magic beans in the bag and the giant beanstalk outside Jack’s window—enliven this beloved tale as never before.

I'm not sure who gave us this book but Baby J and I found a gem.  Everyone knows the story of Jack and the Beanstalk (I think) and this version doesn't veer far from the traditional story.  It adds a bit of fun and it is so darn cute.  I think I enjoyed the flip-the-flap component more than Baby J but I really couldn't help myself.  I really had to search for the little flaps.  Baby J wouldn't have been able to do it on his own, but I imagine after a few rereads it wouldn't be a problem.

This one had a few more sentences per page than what Baby J usually reads but this read kept his attention much longer than most. We still didn't get through a whole book but I felt good about our progress AND I found a good read :)  If I'm going to read a book over and over again, I do want to enjoy it.

I'll definitely buy more of these lift-the-flap books.  I recommend these as gifts for Littles that find it a bit difficult to sit still or Momma's that enjoy reminders of simpler times.

  2. I loved reading these "Little Critter" books out loud to my kids when they were small. They're such sweet and fun stories and the illustrations are so cute. Good idea to keep the books YOU like close at hand because you'll be reading them a thousand times or until they fall apart.
