Not Sure I Agree...

Have you ever felt this way? I'm not sure if I have. I don't quite understand. I always want to tell everyone about books I love.

  1. I do not really get it, of course I would tell people

  2. I don't understand that one. If a book is a amazing I'll tell others though I might not do it justice in describing why it's amazing

  3. I love to spread the word about great books and nothing makes me happier than when someone enjoys one of my recommendations. At the same time, though, I get very proprietary over them and I want everyone to remember that I FOUND IT FIRST, therefore my experience is somehow more (not a very flattering quality, I admit). Having not read TFIOS, I don't understand the context of this quote, particularly who/what is being betrayed. Interesting quote to ponder...

    1. It made me think a bit. I love that you want to be remembered as finding it first. I feel the same way when I play match-maker with my friends. I want them to remember that they are together because of ME :) so I can understand how you feel. Lol.

  4. Oh yes. Most definitely. Books you only recommend to the "right" people. Like they deserve only the best.

  5. I've never had a book so special that not to share it is the only way to keep that feeling. Like Juju, I share with those I believe will appreciate the value of the specific book.

    1. I might be picky on which book I recommend to people when I don't know their style. I don't want them to judge me if they don't like the book. I'm not sure if I felt like a reader needed to be special enough for one of my faves. Very interesting. It makes me think.

  6. I definitely do/would share; my only problem is that I can never express how good a book is compare to my idea of it in my brain; in that sense it does feel like betrayal. maybe that's what they mean? "can't" in the sense of"not being capable of"
it's just like in art - I'm a painter. a painting is always so much more beautiful in my brain than it ends up on a rock - I paint on rocks only

    1. I feel like my worst reviews are those books that I love. I can only gush but I don't know how to make people "get it." Just so sad. All of that is just to say I understand.

  7. No I like sharing them with friends and hoping they like them as much as I do. If they feel very close to me ( the books), sometimes I worry my friends will agree if they try them. Same with a favorite movie sometimes but books are more personal.

    1. I agree that books are more personal. I love sharing books with my friends. If only they would read them :)

  8. Yeah, this doesn't seem like a quote I would take to heart. I tell people about all the books I really enjoy. I wonder what the context of this quotes is in the book.

    1. It's rare that I find a quote that I don't agree with. But this one made me think.

  9. Not sure I agree either...is this a quote from The Fault in Our Stars or something ?

  10. I can't disagree more. That quote reminds me of those past years when books in libraries were behind closed shelves. Book only exist because people read them. And what can be more wonderful than to share a great book with your friends?

    1. I agree but others have given me a little bit more to think about.

  11. I think I might understand the concept of what the quote is saying, but I can't say I've fully experienced it. I mean, I am a blogger, after all... it's all about discourse and sharing what we love (or loathe). I guess the only way I understand the quote is that sometimes you have something you love SO MUCH and it's hard to talk about why you love it so much. It can be difficult to fully express how meaningful and perfect is to you, especially when you know putting it out there might have other people say "oh that was okay" and you think "how could that not be as transcendent for you as it was for me?!"

I actually just had a book club yesterday with one of my favourite books (The Sea of Tranquility) and it was so disappointing that not everyone loved it as much as my friend and I. We wanted everyone to read the book and share in our love, and they did LIKE it, but they still had issues (which is totally valid, it just hurt my heart a little).

    1. I definitely understand the difficulty of discussing how much you love something. I feel tongue tied all the freakin time. It can be disappointing when people don't love a book as much as you do. I feel that way all the time. I might take it a little too personal.

  12. I kind of agree with that quote. It's about the right person to tell it to, though. There are some books I absolutely love but can't talk about with anyone because they wouldn't 'get' it.

    1. I can understand that not everyone will "get it." I guess I just needed everyone's thoughts to fully understand this quote.

  13. I I don't really agree because if I run across a book I really love I tell everyone.

    1. That's what I thought too but there have been some interesting perspectives given.
