Description:
Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.
Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.
If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.
My Review:
On the story...
Under the Never Sky has a more science fiction feel to it. It successfully intertwines adventure, romance, and character growth. I enjoyed the adventure most, appreciated the character growth, and found the romance to be just okay. I started off finding Aria selfish and bit..not so smart. This is intentional and a product of her upbringing but was still a bit difficult to follow her actions. I was happy to see her change and grow. I liked Perry from the beginning. Aria and Perry's adventures were difficult, surprising, and entertaining.
On the narrator...
The story alternates between Perry and Aria's point of views. I enjoyed Ms. Flagler and believe she did a good job with both. I liked her voices for male characters best. Luckily there were mostly male characters in the book.
Overall,
An entertaining sci-fi audio that can be enjoyed in print or audio form. The action and redeeming characters mad this an interesting read.
I am going to have to give this one a whirl since the audio was so good. I really like dystopian in audio form :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! Most of my audios are dystopian.
DeleteLoved this book, listening to the audiobook would be interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun. The sequel has a different narrator though.
DeleteGreat review. I should consider this one.
ReplyDeleteYou'll like it, I'm sure.
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it! I really loved this book and had many of the same feelings as you regarding the characters. I took an instant liking to Perry while Aria did kind of have to grow on me. But I eventually ended up having a lot of respect for her. I'm actually anxious to get into the next book.
ReplyDeleteI've just finished the next one and it's pretty great as well. I think you'll like it.
DeleteAnother dystopia series I would love to give a go
ReplyDeleteThis one is a bit different because of the sci-fi feel.
DeleteI'm glad you liked the audiobook, :) I've never really been interested in this series but you made the audio sound pretty good :D
ReplyDeleteI liked it on audio and liked the book even though I didn't think I would. You should give it a go if you find it on audio.
DeleteThis book is sitting on my shelf looking at me and collecting dust. Must get into it. Soon!
ReplyDeleteI say that for so many books. Le Sigh.
DeleteThis sounds like something I would love especially in audio. I enjoy dystopian novels and wish I had time to read more of them. I'm going to check into picking this one up though.
ReplyDeletecheck into it on audio.
DeleteI actually really liked the romance-I thought it was a slow steady build to the burn and quite satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think this book was done well.
