Description:

Life in Marblehead has had a pleasant predictability, until Diesel arrives. Rumor has it that a collection of priceless ancient relics representing the Seven Deadly Sins have made their way to Boston’s North Shore. Partnered with pastry chef Lizzie Tucker, Diesel bullies and charms his way through historic Salem to track them down—and his criminal mastermind cousin Gerewulf Grimorie. The black-haired, black-hearted Wulf is on the hunt for the relic representing gluttony. Caught in a race against time, Diesel and Lizzie soon find out that more isn’t always better, as they battle Wulf and the first of the deadly sins.

With delectable characters and non-stop thrills that have made Janet Evanovich a household name, Wicked Appetite will leave you hungry for more.
My Rating:

My Review:
Lizzie spends her days making amazing cupcakes and lives alone in an old home inherited from her Great Aunt Ophelia.  Her life soon turns upside down when "Wulf" Grimorie arrives on her doorstep looking for an ancient relic that will help him accomplish his evil deeds.  He seems to believe that Lizzie is the key to finding this relic.  Diesel hopes to keep the relic out of the hands of Wulf which means he also needs Lizzie so that he can find them first.  Diesel and Lizzie partner up to find the relics while fighting the relics' wacky side effects on the holder and their attraction to each other.

On the story...
I didn't enjoy this one at all.  Of course Lizzie goes her whole life without knowing she's special and two guys show up on her doorstep ready to tell her and needing her help.  Everything was just flat.  The characters were silly and uninteresting.  They did things that made no sense and I felt like I was in the middle of a slap stick comedy routine.  The end made the entire book feel like nothing but contrived filler.  I noticed similarities to Stephanie Plum characters which made these characters feel like substandard copies.

On the narrator...
I'm not really a fan of Lorelei King.  I find her voice too mature and smoky for these characters.

Overall...
I thought this book was a waste of my time and I'll skip the rest of this series.

  1. I hated this one too, I can still read the Steph books but this one! I do not like Diesel when she brought him into the Steph books, suddenly making them paranormal

You do have me curious about Lorelei King though.

  3. I am totally going to skip this series. I do like L.K. though but it has to be the right book for her to fit!

  4. I haven't read this. I did read another small series from the same author which she again teamed up with another author to write with. I think it was called The Full Tilt series? Don't quote me on that I don't remember exactly it's been a few years. But that one was pretty decent. I'm a little surprised that this one was bad. I guess she doesn't do paranormal well.

  5. At this point, I'm done with Evanovich. The slapstick routine is tired at this point and I can't get over how flat her characters in general have become. I think she needs a reboot.

Was this your first Lorelei King experience? I can see how she may not have worked here but I think she absolutely nails the Mercy Thompson books.

    1. The slapstick routine has lost its charm and it makes me sad. I'm not familiar with the Mercy Thompson books. I'll have to look at them and compare.

  6. Oh dear, that doesn't sound promising. I've seen her books around but never tried them. But I won't start with this one if I end up trying.

  7. LOL, well there you go! There is nothing like a good dose of honesty. Too bad this one was disappointing. Sometimes when authors have been writing for so long their new books start sounding a lot like things they've written in the past.

  8. Hahaha really? I have not read one of her books yet. I wanted to try her numbered series (One for the Money, etc).
You don't give the ol' sour puss face to too many books!
