Butch put down the Bud without drinking from it. His eyes traveled over Rhage’s body.

“We’re going to need a shitload of steel,” the human muttered.”

My Rating:

My Review:
I have no idea where I've been all this time with these books.  I read the first one a little over a year ago and it just didn't do it for me (You can find my mini-review here).  Then I found these two in my car.  They fell out of a box during the move and I decided to give them a go.  Plus, I had challenges on the brain.  I cannot be happier that I did.

I love each of these stories for different reasons.  I love that Rhage had a pretty huge monkey—or shall we say monster—on his back.  How often do we see problems like this?  I loved that Z was so broken that even I became emotionally invested in his story.

But ultimately I'm go to have to say that I love how this series is written most of all.  Though each book features a brother, the reader is allowed to get to know all the brothers, and other major characters, at the same time.  I've read many series that follow an entire family and each character gets his or her own book.  This is nothing new.  The reader gets glimpses into characters, their traits, and problems.  But this is usually done through the lens of the main character of any given book.  If the side character is not in the scene of the main character, we often do not know what is going on with that character.  But how it is done here makes this series extra special.  The stories are told from multiple points of views of all the characters and creates connections for future reads. The story progresses for all of them, giving hints about problems to come as we go along.  It's kind of a tease, but the story is so intriguing and emotional and exciting that I'm satisfied at the end of the book even though there are so many unanswered questions.  This technique also causes me to become even more attached to the characters even though I have yet to get to their individual story.

I know I've been told before and I didn't listen.  I'm glad that I came to my senses.  Don't do what I did.  Don't put this series off.

P.S.  Both of these books satisfy the TBR Challenge that I committed to eons ago.

  2. I love these books! Rhage was all the rage to me. His monster was awesome and I adored him. I can't wait to get into Z's story as he seems the most mysterious of them all.

  4. Oh I really need to read more of this series. I've still only read the first book. Fail me, right? People just love the series. I thought the first was pretty good but guessing it keeps getting better.
