Description:
Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry the ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her 'happy ever after' begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring but in the panic that followed, she has now lost her phone. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!
Well, perfect except the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life.
What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other's lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents... she soon realises that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

My Rating

My Review:
Poppy Wyatt loses her engagement ring and I've Got Your Number starts off with a flourish.  While trying to find her engagement ring she makes an unlikely friend, and discovers much about herself and her friends.  True to form, Ms. Kinsella sucks you in by unveiling surprise after surprise; all the while, the reader because attached to the lovely quirky characters.  It isn't possible to give much of a description without giving away too many surprises.  If you like Sophie Kinsella, you'll like this one.  If you've never read Sophie Kinsella, start with a different one and come back to this one.

On the story...
This book was almost a miss for me.  I just could not believe that anyone in their right mind would grab a cell phone out of the trash.  Not only is it unbelievable that she would use it, but it is unbelievable that anyone would start giving out the number as if it is was their phone.  So at this point in the book (probably page 5 or so) I had a serious attitude and couldn't really take Poppy seriously.  Luckily as the story goes on, I get sucked into the story and I get over the cell phone issue.  I actually ended up enjoying Poppy's character because her "personal issue" was a unique one and I loved to see her grow as she battled with it.  It's somethingI think many people struggle with.  I'm not going to reveal it even though it isn't much of a secret because the moment when it comes up is pretty funny and it truly made me understand Poppy more as I hadn't thought about it before.  Even though I grew attached to Poppy, she often bugged me with the seriously stupid things that she did.  These were not quirky and funny.  It was just stupid.

But all of this would suggest that I didn't enjoy this book and I truly did.  It just took awhile.  Everything that happens earlier in the book is put into perspective and I loved every moment of that.  Plus, best of all... the ROMANCE in this was so sweet.  There isn't a lot actually and I can't tell you anything about it, but everything about it made me want to melt.  It was so sweet but it wasn't sappy.  Every word spoken just really reeled me in.  It alone would make this a book worth reading.

On the narrator...
Unfortunately, I would suggest reading this and not listening.   Ms. Entwistle's voice for Poppy was so whiny.  The voice in combination with the silly/stupid things Poppy sometimes did had me gritting my teeth at times.

Overall...
This is a book worth reading (not listening) for the second half of the book alone.  It is so worth it.  You just have to get to it.

P.S.  There are footnotes.  This is annoying.  Authors should not do this.  More about this phenomenon later.

  1. I've considered this one. But each time I've tried one of her books on audio, I can't deal with the narrators. I'm so picky with girl voices. Thanks for your honest review.

Good point about picking it out of the trash!

    1. I'm not sure if I'm picky but narrator voices are so important to audiobooks. I can't help but let it affect my experience.

  2. Ouch! I always feel that with audiobooks, half the battle is whether or not you like the narrator, I'm sorry this one didn't work for you.
I do mean to read it but Sophie Kineslla is not high in my list of reading priorities.

    1. I love Sophie Kinsella. She's a new love too. But I've only heard audiobooks from the same narrator each time. This one really threw me for a loop.

  3. I think, if that cellphone was an iphone and it was just a trash of papers, I'd also grab it out of the trash. :| But if it wasn't, then I can totally understand your sentiment lol.

Poppy does sound like an annoying character. I have a temper the length of a matchstick when it comes to fictional characters, so I think it'll be hard for me to like her as well. Good to know you liked it though. I've read some books with characters that annoyed me so much, but which I ended up liking still. This sounds like those type of books so maybe when I read something by Kinsella, I'd try this after.

    1. yes, but at the same time, you would expect the owner to cancel it if it was lost.

This is definitely one that you'll end up liking despite the character.

  6. I listened to this one, too. I HATE footnotes, especially in audiobooks! I feel like there should be a disclaimer or something on the front of the audiobook so you know! I enjoyed Poppy as a character but did feel like some of the plot was far-fetched.

  7. Hey, I read this book! I loved it!
It was funny, cute and I loved that is was current. I loved all the texting and emailing!
That is really too bad that the reader was so bad. A bad narrator can really ruin an audio book.

  8. I think this is definitely a book where you have to suspend disbelief-I was shaking my head at some of the things Poppy did in the beginning but by the end, I had been completely sucked in by her story (it also helps that I read rather than listened-I like to create my own voices for characters).

  9. I actually enjoy footnotes sometimes! I can't imagine how they would work in an audiobook, though... City of Saints and Madmen by Jeff VanderMeer has so many footnotes that some of the pages are more than half footnote, lol. It definitely slowed me down but I found it pleasantly odd.

    1. Wow those are big footnotes. No these were cutesy footnotes that were used to be cute and it could have been done differently. I found it distracting and it always felt like the footnotes were interrupting my story!
