Dewey's Read-a-Thon: Hours 1-6

I had such a hard time going to bed last night because I was so excited.  It's 7am here and I probably won't be okay until 10 but it's all good :)

I don't want to flood everyone' readers so I will create a new post every six hours.   I will post updates throughout the event and follow my twitter pretty closely.  I will post new links on twitter as well.  If you stop by, make sure to comment so I can return the visit and cheer you on!

Here goes!

Hour 1:

Book:  Garden Spells
Prior Hour's progress: N/A
Mood: Sleepy :)
Updates: I need coffee!
Mini-Challenges: Dewey's Introductory Meme:
  1. What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Texas
  2. Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? The first one, Garden Spells :)
  3. Which snack are you most looking forward to? Tuna Sandwiches
  4. Tell us a little something about yourself! This is my third time participating (3rd times the charm right?); I've got my mom and my grandmother participating this year (Mom) (Grandmother);
  5. If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I'd spend less time on Twitter :)
Hour 2

Book: Garden Spells
Prior Hour's progress: 34 pages
Mood: Alert, ready and excited!!
Updates:  I started off a bit slow because I had to get the moms and grandmoms on track.  Plus mom and I had to learn how to use the coffee maker.
Mini-Challenges: Reading in Translation

  1. If you could read any book that’s been translated into English in its ORIGINAL language, what would it be? The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (I've been meaning to read this one); originally written in Portuguese
  2. Include the original book’s cover if possible; if you want, also post the English cover for comparison.

Hour 3:

Book: Garden Spells
Prior Hour's progress: I read about 30 pages (in 30 minutes)
Mood: Engrossed...this book is good :)
Updates: I didn't get much reading done last time because of internet fun and mini-challenges so I'm going to just read this hour.  I'll check in with everyone next hour.
Mini-Challenges: Book Puzzle  [ to be completed before hour 6]

Hour 4

Book: Garden Spells
Prior Hour's progress: 65 pages
Mood: I'm cold :/ but feeling good :)
Updates:  I've been telling my brother that he has to come cheer us and he only gives me dirty looks.  But this morning when he woke up we got a little cute cheer :)  He might have been grumpy and he said it was the only one we would get but I thought it was cute.  Going to check in on friends this hour
Mini-Challenges: Turn to Page (Hosted by Me!!)

Hour 5:

Book: Garden Spells (I think I'll finish it this hour)
Prior Hour's progress: Too ashamed to say
Mood: Jubilant :)
Updates: I did a lot of cheering and moving around last hour so not much accomplished but I've enjoyed meeting new people on twitter.
Mini-Challenges: Book Sentences

Hour 6:  Didn't Update :)

Book:
Prior Hour's progress: N/A
Mood:

Mini-Challenges: Book Appetite

Something sweet and filling with a desert is perfect for Garden Spells.  Desert would be great too since Claire is a baker but if everything is too sweet it doesn't always feel as special.

  10. Hi, Alexis! :)

I think you just cheered me up somehow to open Garden Spells. It's been on my shelf for quite some time now (like 2 years..hehe). Anyways, no time like the present to enjoy great books. :D
How do you like it? Any favorite part?

And oh, I'm one of the cheer pixies for Team CheerFalstaff so just holler for me on twitter if you're taking a break from reading. You may use the following hash tags:

  11. On some note, I kinda agree with you on how wise it would be to "stay away" from twitter to get any serious reading done for it can be quite addictive to check up on everyone's status and just tweet. :D
