Dewey's Read-a-Thon: Book List

ONE WEEK TILL GAME TIME!!

I've started to compile my book list for the read-a-thon. You can tell I'm excited because I seriously think about this event for a month in advance and start planning on the little details. Laugh at me if you like, but I learned the hard way that planning is key. With read-a-thons and with life. But read-a-thons mostly.

So here's my book list.  Why so many you ask?  Well I learned from friend from Wall-to-Wall books that you have to have to pick more books than you know you'll read.  I've learned that my brain becomes pretty finnicky around hour 23 and combing my bookshelf for more books at that point can make anybody grumpy.

I tried to do this cute little series reading thing last time around.  Well it wasn't as cute as I thought and it didn't inspire me to get off of twitter and read.  So I'm just going for whatever this time around.
Stand-Alones:
1. The Sweet Heart Hoax
2. Garden Spells
3. 22 Brittania Road
4. Haunting Violet
5. The Bungalow
6. Veil of Night

Series (Back-up):
1. Soulless & Changeless
2. The Sweet Scent of Blood and The Cold Kiss of Death

Mom and I are getting together for this read-a-thon.  This will be the first time that we will be giving it a go together.  She's shared her list as well and she is more decisive than I am.  Here's Mom's reading list:

1.  Mine till Midnight
2.  When Strangers Marry
3.  Listen to Your Heart
4.  Mockingjay

Sooo...any thoughts on the books we've chosen. For those of you who are participating, have you picked out your books? What are they?

If you haven't signed up for Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, you are missing out and you should sign up RIGHT now!  Worried about not making it the entire 24 hours?  No worries...I don't make it either.  Just do what you can.  It will be fun anyway.

Update:  Snacks!!  I know it seems like a lot, but mom and I are betting that dad and my brother join in when it comes to eating the food.  We made sure there was enough for them too (just in case).

  1. Awwwww... gee thanks for the shout out!
Yeah on Fri. I'm gonna put up my list of book and picture of the stacks. I also have to plan my grocery shopping for snacks! I'm a little slow this year, I hope that's not a sign.
I am so glad you are doing it with your mom!!!!! Another mother daughter duo! Does your mom have a blog? or are you going to be updating for her?
I already have you in my RAT bookmarks for easy access.

    1. I need some more snack ideas. We've come up with a few but we don't have enough for sure. I'm sure it is not a sign. It's probably because you are a veteran.

Yes! Another mother/daughter duo. My mom doesn't have a blog but she has her twitter and I will also include her updates on my blog.

  2. The only book from your list that I've read is Haunting Violet. The cover makes it look serious, but it's really a light and fun read. Should be good for a readathon.

    1. Oh good! Thanks for letting me know. I'm hoping it is a good one. But if I have half as much fun as I did the last time, I'm sure it will be.

  3. YEAH!

We are so going to kick major butt this weekend. You do have to pick more books than you can possibly read because you want to give yourself options. If you don't feel a book in 15 pages go to the next one. Especially later on in the afternoon :)

    I am so excited!

    1. I relayed the message to my mom and she picked out more reads as well. I think it is a great idea to move on if it doesn't do it for me in the first 15 minutes. I'll keep that in mind this time.

  4. I love the idea of reading a series during a marathon. I should try that someday.

When I first read the Twilight series, I read all 4 books in 4 days. (Called in to work) So for a series, I might be able to do it.

  5. Great lists!!!
Hope you two have loads of fun and that you kick butt reading those books

  6. Yay! I've started picking my books out two. I've got 6 picked out so far, but they're all really short so I need to find a few more. Last year I read 7, because I like tiny little books for read-a-thons, and you're right that it's good to have extras on hand!

    1. OH 7 is a great number. I want to read the most fun books, I don't care too much about the size. I'll be prepping for finals afterward so it's like my last time for good reading time.

  7. Your list is really eclectic. You look like you have a good selection that should keep you entertained. Mom's list is more my speed. They look like books I could really get into.

I'm still thinking mine over though I have thrown HP: Chamber of Secrets onto the pile as I want to read the series over this year. I've already read book one so on to the next.

    1. I'm hoping so but I'm already starting to change my mind a bit. It could be because my mom's list is making me a bit jealous. I can't wait to see what's on your list.

  8. Can your mom do a review on the Hathaways? Because that would be pretty awesome to see what she thinks! And seriously, I'm jealous you ladies get to do that together. My mom would probably be snoring by Hour 12, and I'd be right behind her. Kudos and much luck to both of you!

    1. I will ask her to do a review of the Hathaways. My mom made it a bit longer than I did so I'm hoping to pull my own weight this time around. Hour 12 is not a bad job though.

  9. Sounds like fun! I really want to read Garden Spells (I've become a big fan of hers!). I enjoyed 22 Brittania Road but it was a bit of a slow read for me. I hope you and your mom have an awesome time!!! :)

    1. I'm pretty sure I'm staring with Garden Spells. I think I'm taking 22 Brittania Road off the list for now. I don't think slow would be good right about now.

  10. I love that mom is reading Mockingjay. And Soulless is on my TBR and bookshelf. I am trying to pick a few books but this list is soo impressive.
I am going to deposit my paycheck Thursday and off to buy snacks. Planning out the snacks is important too! I think I will be doing trail mixes and fruit. Keeping it healthy. :)

Tell Mom I am looking forward to hearing her thoughts on Mockingjay. :)

    1. My mom and I are going to the store tomorrow to pick up snacks and make our snacks. I know we'll have fruit and veggies. but I'm not sure what else we will have going on. Mom doesn't eat Sushi or that would have been great.
