2012 Book Challenges...I Think

I'm super excited to announce that I think I've narrowed down the challenges in which I'm participating in the coming year.  There are a few lost challenges (those I found, liked, but forgot where I saw them) and when I find them, I will add them in.

First up, is the Eclectic Reader Challenge from Book'd Out.  In this challenge, I commit to reading at least 12 books from 12 different genres.
The Genres: 1) Literary Fiction, 2) Crime/Mystery Fiction, 3) Romantic Fiction, 4) Historical Fiction, 5) Young Adult, 6) Fantasy, 7) Science Fiction, 8) Non Fiction, 9) Horror, 10) Thriller /Suspense, 11) Classic, and 12) Your favorite genre

I'm thinking this should be pretty easy because I'm already a fairly eclectic reader.  But a few I'll have to seek out.
Next, I'm tackling the 2012 Multi-Cultural Book Challenge hosted by One Page at a Time and Truly Bookish.  In this challenge, I commit to reading at least 12 minority YA books this year.  If I find a challenge featuring adult books as well, I will join that as well.
The Books:  Truly Bookish shared this list from Goodreads for ideas, but I'll be looking for more recommendations through the year.  For some reason, I think this challenge will be more difficult for me because minority books aren't as easy to find.

Then, I'm taking on the Dystopia 2012 Challenge hosted by The Bookish Ardour.  In this challenge, I commit to reading at least 15 dystopian novels (Contagion level).

Here are the available Challenge Levels:
Asocial– Choose 5 books to read
Contagion – Choose 15 books to read
Soldier – Choose 30 books to read
Drone – Choose 50 books to read
Conditioned – Choose 75 books to read
Brainwashed – Choose anywhere between 76-135 books to read
Totalitarian – Choose anywhere between 136-200 books to read

The Books:  A few weeks ago, my helpful blogger friends help put together a list of dystopian novels.  I'm going to tackle this list for inspiration.

I'm not done yet!  I'm also participating in the 2012 TBR Pile Reading Challenge which is hosted by a whole bunch of bloggers, including Evie from Bookish, Bonnie from Hands and Home, Rie from Mission to Read, and Vicky from Books, Biscuits, & Tea.  I commit to reading 10 books from my TBR Pile (A Firm Handshake).
Levels:
1-10 - A Firm Handshake
11-20 - A Friendly Hug
21-30 - A Sweet Kiss
31-40 - Love At First Sight
41-50 - Married With Children

I've chosen this challenge out of necessity.  Like really.

I am again participating in the Goodreads challenge.

I haven not decided what my goal will be though.  This year I got most of my reading done during the summer.  This year I will be studying for the bar during the summer and anticipate getting NO reading done (mostly because I'm scared to do anything but study) and I have no idea what my time will be like after the bar and in to the far.  Hmmm... decisions, decisions.

Last but not least, I am participating in the Bookish 2012 Bookish New Year's Resolution Challenge hosted by Olivia from Butterfly-o-Meter Books.  In this challenge we'll make up our bookish list of resolutions for 2012, and cheer each other on as much as we can to make our resolutions realities by the end of the year.

My Goals:
  1. Complete the Eclectic Reader Challenge
  2. Complete Multi-Cultural Book Challenge
  3. Complete The Dystopia Challenge
  4. Complete the TBR Pile Challenge
  5. Complete the Goodread Reading Challenge
  6. Respond to review requests within two weeks of receiving them
  7. Schedule review requests within one week of accepting them
  8. Reply to comments within 48 hours
  9. Keep up with my challenges!!  (Maybe create a page for challenges)
  10. Enjoy the Experience :)
Haven't decided your challenges yet?  Go check out A Novel Challenge which lists many of the challenges around.  Very helpful resource.

So which challenges are you participating in next year?  I wanted to do so many more but I just had to stop. I mean really.

Good luck on all of your challenges Alexis! There are some I think I'll join in for but haven't gotten around to it. Sheesh, I still have to do my monthly updates. Lol. What I really wanted to do today was pop in and wish you a very Merry Christmas!

  7. I've fixed it by choosing lower goals within the challenges rather than fewer challenges. I'm not sure if that will work but I'm going to try it.

  8. I didn't feel any pressure this year until December. Then it was too late. Right now, I'm just excited. Hopefully it stays that way.

  9. I think I might do the Eclectic and Multi-Cultural...but I like the Dystopian one too. Ugh! As I mentioned before I didn't do very well with the challenges this year...I didn't even meet my goal on goodreads. Hmmm...what to do! Maybe just one challenge?

  10. You're much better than me. I don't know if I'm doing any challenges this next year. The pressure. It's too much! LOL. Happy reading and good luck with all your challenges, though.

  11. I joined the 2011 Dystopia Challenge but I didn't finish it *sad face* so I don't think I'm going to join again next year.

  12. Me too! I'm hoping that the solution is to choose lower numbers for the challenges. Crossing my fingers. Lol.

  15. Haha! I've got my nifty list for the Dystopia challenge and I'm ready to go. I'm probably most excited for that one. I'm also excited about the Eclectic reader challenge because I think it is the one that I am most likely to succeed.

  17. I'm hoping that these work together better. I'm also hoping that by choosing to do the smallest number in each category, that I will get it done. We will see.

  23. Dope!! I'm going to check out the Eclectic reader challenge and I failed miserably at the Dystopia challenge so maybe I'll try my hand at it again this year.

  24. There's sooo many challenges circulation for next year, I don't even know where to start! The only one I know I will go after for sure is the Goodreads one again. I'll have to check out your list and a few others I've come across to see which ones I can actually manage, haha. Good luck with them all!

  25. I am thinking about one of those too, and 3 others...I will have to make my mind up soon enough *thinks a bit more*

  26. Awesome resolutions and best of luck with them.
I've decided not to do any challenges for 2012 other than the Goodreads and the movie challenge. :) I went a little overboard this year and I felt a bit of pressure.

  27. :D Awesome!! We're in it together for 3 out of the 6, pretty good percentage right? It's gonna be grand, we'll succeed and make 2012 our bookish awesome-sauce year, right ?

    *hugs*
